State Warrant Searching

The
Kansas State Treasurer's Office
is always searching for ways to increase efficiency within the State system. The
primary purpose of this page is to allow personnel of other state agencies easy
access to information about paid and outstanding state warrants (checks).
Because this site is not restricted, the names of payees have been intentionally
removed. Such information can be provided only to authorized personnel.
As you may know, many states have adopted laws which open but limit access to public documents. Our act is known
as the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA), K.S.A. 45-215 et seq. Under the KORA and our civil code, lists of names and
addresses obtained from public records cannot be used for the purpose of selling or offering for sale any property
or service to the persons listed (i.e. commercial solicitation). The civil code statute, K.S.A. 2006 Supp. 45-230,
provides that we would be subject to civil penalties if we furnish such information to you, and you in turn use the
information for commercial purposes. K.S.A. 2005 Supp. 45-230 also provides that you are also subject to a civil penalty
of up to $500 for each occurrence if you use this data to sell any product or service to the individuals listed in our database.

Warrants files are updated on a daily
basis. The information accessible from this page is as chronologically accurate
as possible.
Our system keeps track of warrants in two separate files, one for paid warrants
and the other for outstanding. In the month of payment, the warrants exist in
both files. Complete funding information is housed for all warrants in the
outstanding file, while none exists in the paid file. Both files will be checked
when using this page.
Kansas state warrants have a seven digit warrant number. This number exists in
the upper right hand corner of all warrants. In addition, the Kansas State
Treasurer's Office stores them on-line with an additional digit in front of the
regular number. This digit corresponds to the type of the warrant.
To look up a warrant, choose the type using the radio buttons. If the type
is not known, choose the radio button stating this. Then type in the seven digit
number shown on the warrant. Then click on the button entitled "Look up
the warrant".
Please note that we store past years' warrants on the same file as the current
year's; therefore, it is possible for duplicates to exist. Using the issue date
of the warrant, you should be able to determine which of the displayed items is
the match.
